This morning I got up early go to the vet's office to pick up Teego's ashes. I was half-expecting to see his ashes packed up in cardboard container that looked like something you'd get a a chinese take-out place, but the staff at the vet presented me Teego's ashes contained in a varnished, 3x6 sealed wooden box completed with certificate of cremation and the default Rainbow Bridge story. Best money I ever spent for a cremation. Before leaving the vet I asked if they could take me in the back to the examination area where they euthanized him, which happened to have been one of the tables they routinely do surgery on. The vet assistant told me she remembered Teego and how sweet a cat he was, right to the end, and I just stood there holding Teego's box with my left hand and touching the table with my right, and said my final goodbye to him. After leaving the vet's office with Teego I was in the old neighborhood where I used to feed the ferals, so I stopped by the camp. A couple of the ferals who remembered me came up to me for a few pets and scratches (though I imagine they were looking for food), so it was like a meeting of my 1rst and 2nd cats. After wards (its still raining btw....what a crappy day), we finally arrived home and I placed Teego's little wooden "crypt" on the shelf near the window in my room, which all my cats love and loved to look out at the world.
